The Vice President of Artistic Programming + Special Events (VPAP+SE) at JAZZ HOUSE plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization's artistic vision, programming, and revenue strategies. Reporting directly to the Founder + President, this dynamic leader collaborates closely with the Artistic Director and Associate Producer to harness external resources, prioritize programmatic growth, and ensure the financial sustainability of JAZZ HOUSE's expanding portfolio of live performances, patron events, and the renowned Montclair Jazz Festival.Unlocking the Power of Live Music and Community Engagement
Strategic Planning and Visioning
The VPAP+SE is responsible for guiding and executing the artistic vision, programming, and booking for all of JAZZ HOUSE's signature performance programs and special events. This includes the Montclair Jazz Festival, the Jazz Icons series curated by the Artistic Director, the Jazz at One series curated by the Associate Producer, the annual Ralph Pucci Annual hosted by Christian McBride, patron and special events, community concert performances by alumni and students, and the organization's new performance venue.Collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team, the VPAP+SE develops strategic plans for the growth and sustainability of these programs, exploring creative partnerships and engaging third-party vendors to activate the new jazz venue. Fostering strong relationships with artists and agents, the VPAP+SE ensures seamless contract execution and a robust patron experience, including a year-round membership program.As a key strategic advisor, the VPAP+SE plays a pivotal role in the planning and operations of the new jazz venue in Montclair, contributing to programming plans, venue management, and revenue opportunities. Partnering with the Head of Communications, the VPAP+SE also helps to build the visibility and brand of JAZZ HOUSE's signature performance programs.Revenue Enhancement
The VPAP+SE serves as an ambassador for JAZZ HOUSE's signature performance programs, collaborating with the Founder + President to cultivate and steward relationships with community leaders and partners. This helps to increase, diversify, and sustain contributed and earned revenue streams for these programs.Working closely with the development and marketing teams, the VPAP+SE leads the festival and new venue sponsorship strategy, managing the full cycle of research, pitch, sales, contracting, fulfillment, documentation, measurement, reporting, and renewal. The VPAP+SE also evaluates and advises on sponsorship, membership, and on-site sales, concessions, and vendor strategies to enhance benefits, pricing, and sales.Developing and executing year-round membership cultivation strategies, the VPAP+SE focuses on building intimate donor and evangelists' events, as well as benefit concerts with partner promoters and venues, to expand the reach and revenue of the festival and the new venue.Financial Management
The VPAP+SE is responsible for building and managing all event budgets, researching and securing multiple vendor and supplier quotes to ensure the highest quality while meeting budget goals. Partnering with the Finance Department, the VPAP+SE tracks expenses, provides risk analysis, and delivers regular updates to all departments.Developing and justifying strategic investment and expenditure plans, the VPAP+SE plays a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of JAZZ HOUSE's signature performance programs.Administration, Production, Operations, and Reporting
Leading signature performance programming planning meetings, the VPAP+SE creates, maintains, and distributes key project management documents. Collaborating with the Associate Director of Event Operations and Chief Philanthropy Officer, the VPAP+SE ensures the integration of revenue-generating activities into the site design for these programs.Overseeing the production, front-of-house, security, maintenance, and volunteer staffing and training, the VPAP+SE works closely with the Assistant Director of Event Operations and Program + Production Coordinator to maintain high-quality production values and an exceptional artist and audience experience.Facilitating internal and external post-event meetings, the VPAP+SE documents and integrates concerns and opportunities into future program planning. Partnering with the development and marketing teams, the VPAP+SE creates timely, impactful, and data-driven reports for sponsors and other key partners, while memorializing all protocols, records, and documents related to each event.
