In the wake of devastating wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades, and Eaton, numerous fashion and beauty brands have stepped up to provide relief and support. These fires have claimed at least 25 lives and destroyed over 40 square miles, causing unprecedented destruction. In response, the fashion community has rallied, offering everything from monetary donations to clothing drives and fundraising events. Brands both local and international have shown remarkable solidarity, demonstrating that style is not just about aesthetics but also about community and compassion.
The impact of these wildfires has been catastrophic, leaving thousands displaced and in urgent need of assistance. Within days of the first blaze, fashion and beauty brands began organizing efforts to aid those affected. For instance, Molly Howard, CEO of La Ligne, emphasized the importance of providing comfort during such a distressing time. Her company joined others in donating sweaters and offering discounts on future purchases. Similarly, Sherry Shi, founder of Roen, expressed deep sorrow for her Southern California roots and pledged financial support for recovery efforts.
Many brands have chosen to donate a portion of their proceeds to various relief funds. Sydney Evan, known for its hand-drawn script jewelry, committed to giving 100% of the sales from its Eye Heart LA Charm and California Charm necklaces to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. Emily P. Wheeler, an L.A.-based jeweler, decided to contribute all proceeds from her Enamel Heart Studs to the California Community Foundation. Octavia Elizabeth, another jewelry designer, pledged to donate 100% of the proceeds from its Parachute bracelet to the same foundation. Heather Taylor Home, famous for its home goods and textiles, allocated 30% of online sales to the California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund, which supports immediate relief and long-term rebuilding efforts.
Other notable contributions come from brands like The Kit Vintage, NIA, ROEN, Ray Griffiths, Monoki, Summer Fridays, The Great, Rhode, Elyse Walker, Rent The Runway, YSE Beauty, Simon Miller, Citizens of Humanity, Alo, Rōz, Collina Strada, Danessa Myricks Beauty, Calpak, Cuyana, Hoka, and Jenny Bird. Each brand has found unique ways to help, whether through direct donations, hosting donation drives, or providing essential items. For example, Rent The Runway offered two free months of service to those impacted by the fires, while Citizens of Humanity opened donation centers where individuals could select new clothing.
Beyond monetary contributions, several brands have taken practical steps to assist. Alo mobilized partners to distribute care kits, while Rōz teamed up with T3 to provide hair kits to professionals affected by the fires. Danessa Myricks Beauty focused on helping makeup artists rebuild their kits, ensuring they could continue their work. Calpak worked closely with organizations to distribute bags and luggage to those in need. Decker’s Brands, parent company to Hoka, Ugg, Teva, and Ahnu, donated million to support wildfire relief and recovery efforts, sharing the funds between Direct Relief and the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region.
These collective efforts highlight the resilience and generosity of the fashion and beauty industry. By coming together, these brands are making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires. Their actions underscore the power of community and the importance of lending a hand in times of crisis. Through these initiatives, hope is being restored, and the path to recovery is becoming clearer for the residents of Los Angeles.
