Discover the Unstoppable Spirit of Ole Miss Athletics

Athletic Excellence on the Track

While many students were enjoying a well-deserved break, the Ole Miss track team was making headlines. Split between two prestigious meets—the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet at Kentucky and the Commodore Challenge at Vanderbilt—the athletes demonstrated exceptional prowess. The men’s team secured third place in Tennessee, while the women’s team placed seventh in Kentucky. Noteworthy performances included freshman Max Armstrong’s victory in the Men’s 600 meters and Hannah Lelfield’s first-place finish in the Women’s 5000 meters. Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan also shone, leading the men’s team with wins in shot put and weight throw. These achievements underscored the team's dedication and competitive spirit. The Rebel track athletes faced stiff competition but managed to secure several top-five finishes. At the Commodore Challenge, Sophie Buaman triumphed in the women’s mile, and Dieusi Armand excelled in the triple jump. Samara McConnell’s runner-up position in pole vault further highlighted the depth of talent within the team. As the month drew to a close, the Ole Miss Track Team prepared for the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas, ready to build on their successes.

Tennis Teams Forge Early Success

The winter break was equally eventful for the Ole Miss Tennis teams. Both men’s and women’s squads kicked off their seasons with impressive victories. The men’s team started strong by defeating Eastern Kentucky, followed by a thrilling 4-3 win against Memphis. Despite being down by two sets, the Rebels staged a remarkable comeback, demonstrating their tenacity and teamwork. Women’s tennis mirrored this success, securing their first win of the season against Memphis. Two days later, they overcame Arkansas State and swept Tennessee State without dropping a set. These early-season triumphs positioned the women’s team as formidable contenders. Preparations were already underway for upcoming matches against Utah, Stanford, and Memphis in Palo Alto, California, where the Rebels aimed to continue their winning streak.

Rifle Team Makes Mark in Alaska

The Ole Miss Rifle team, currently ranked ninth nationally, embarked on an arduous journey to Fairbanks, Alaska, to face several ranked opponents. Although they narrowly lost to No. 2 Alaska Fairbanks, the team rebounded by defeating No. 13 Akron and No. 16 Army. The following day, they achieved an outstanding score of 4,740 points, marking the second-highest in program history. This performance came tantalizingly close to breaking the school record, highlighting the team's potential and determination. The rifle team's resilience was evident in their ability to bounce back from setbacks. Their near-record performance not only solidified their standing but also set a high bar for future competitions. With a home match against Memphis looming on January 26, the team remained focused on maintaining their momentum and achieving new milestones.
