Uncover the Hidden Treasures of New Music Friday

Benson, "Down That Road"

Benson, a talented artist from Boiling Springs, South Carolina, presents "Down That Road" in this week's premiere. With his banjo skills and the collaboration of bluegrass veterans like Kristin Scott Benson and Wayne Benson, along with the captivating vocals of Keith Garrett, this song conveys a profound sense of vulnerability. The lilting groove of the tune makes it a standout, and Benson's love for the music shines through. The track credits showcase the exceptional musicianship of Kristin Scott Benson on banjo, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Cody Kilby on guitar, Kevin McKinnon on bass, Tony Creasman on drums, and Dustin Pyrtle on harmony vocal.

This song is not just a musical piece but a story told through the strings and voices. It takes listeners on a journey down a road filled with emotions and musical excellence. Benson's passion for bluegrass is evident, and "Down That Road" is a testament to his talent and artistry.

Sarah Klang, "Go To The Sun"

Swedish folk-pop singer-songwriter Sarah Klang takes us on a personal musical voyage with "Go To The Sun". Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, her song represents a transformation from a dark place to one of hope. As she describes, this song is about escaping the day-to-day and finding one's way to better places, both mentally and physically. The release date of November 29, 2024, for the single and February 7, 2025, for the album showcases the significance of this musical creation. With Nettwerk Music Group as the label, Sarah's music reaches a wider audience.

Listening to "Go To The Sun" is like experiencing a moment of clarity and renewal. Sarah's heartfelt lyrics and her soulful voice make this song a must-listen. It touches the hearts of listeners and leaves them with a sense of inspiration.

Jaelee Roberts, "Looking For Yourself"

Jaelee Roberts, a Nashville-based artist, pays tribute to the '80s and '90s eras of bluegrass with her cover of "Looking For Yourself". This song originally recorded by the Lonesome River Band holds a special place in her heart as a lifelong fan. Her decision to record this bluegrass cover was a dream come true, with the help of an amazing team including Byron House on bass, Cody Kilby on acoustic guitar, Andy Leftwitch on mandolin and fiddle, John Gardner on drums, Ron Block on banjo, and Grayson Lane on harmony vocals. Jaelee's love for the music is palpable, and her spin on this classic song is a delight.

"Looking For Yourself" captures the essence of the bygone eras and brings it to life with Jaelee's unique interpretation. Her vocals, combined with the talented musicians around her, create a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh. It's a song that invites listeners to sing along and immerse themselves in the world of bluegrass.

Tønder Session, Jon Muq

Earlier this year, during the waning days of summer, our videographer friends at I Know We Should traveled to Denmark to capture special sessions with Americana and roots artists. Singer-songwriter Jon Muq, born and raised in Uganda and now making waves in Austin, Texas, performed during the Tønder Festival. His debut full-length album, Flying Away, released on Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound, showcases his talent. On a waterside boardwalk with a marshy backdrop, Muq offered "Bend", a song about resiliency, flexibility, and connection, and "Hello Sunshine", a perfect track for August in Denmark.

Jon Muq's performance at the Tønder Festival was a memorable one, and watching the full performance here is a treat. His music connects with listeners on a deep level, and his story of moving from Uganda to Texas and leaving his mark on the American roots music scene is inspiring. These two songs from Flying Away highlight his artistry and musical prowess.

It's all right here on BGS and You Gotta Hear This! Immerse yourself in the world of new music and let these musical treasures touch your soul.
